옻칠은 귀하고 값진 천연재료다.
지금껏 인류가 개발한 어떠한 화학 도료보다도 우수한 보존효과를 가지고있다.
옻칠은 많은시간을 필요로 하고 아주 엷게 수십번의 덪칠을 하고 긁어내기를 반복하며 인내를 갖고 건조시킨뒤 사포로 닦아서 광택을 내어야 하는 고된 과정때문에 집념의 예술이라 할수있다.
재료 또한 금분, 은분, 알루미늄분, 금속, 곡식, 천, 난백, 나전 등등 수없이 많고 다양하다.
옻칠예술은 서양에서는 따라할수없는 동양만의 차별화된 예술분야라 생각한다.
마음하나는
그동안 해온 유화작업의 사실적 이미지 구현 방식에서 벗어나 사물의 전면적이고 포괄적인 내적영감이 강조된 형식으로 표출하고 싶었다.
이번 작품들을 완성해 가며 형식과 기법의 장르를 불문하고 완전한 정신적 순수 상태에서의 창작을 통해 얻어지는 마음의 치유를 느끼며 행복했고 또한 새로운 도전을 마주하는 나자신과의 고독한 시간들이었다.
마음하나는
내속에 있는 새로운 창조 에너지의 발견과 무한 발산의 의미를 지닌 터닝 포인트같은 작품들이다.

Lacquer is one of the most precious and valuable natural materials. Lacquer dries to a hard, durable and smooth surface; surpassing any other chemical coating developed by mankind.
Lacquer is an art of commitment. It is a laborious art that requires immense patience - a process that requires several dozen rounds of thin coatings, scraping back, drying and finally careful polishing with sandpaper.
The decorative treatments and materials that can be worked with lacquer are numerous and diverse. Lacquer is sometimes painted with precious metals, in gold and silver; inlaid with mother-of-pearl, grains, cloth, wood, or mud powder, and even dusted with gold.
In my view, the Eastern lacquer art is a specialised art form that does not exist in the Western art field.
Through my new Heart One series of works, I wanted to move away from my previous engagement with oil painting and realistic representations, to a more abstract expression of my personal discoveries and inspirations.
I was very alone against this new challenge, but through the process of creating these works, the preoccupation with the pure forms regardless of genre or technique, I was awarded with the healing of my heart.
Heart One represents a turning point in my artistic career. I have discovered a new channel of spreading infinite energy.
