전제의 기억
우리는 보이는 기억 현재와 보이지 않는 기억 과거 그리고 볼 수 없으나 보여질 기억인 미래 속에 살고 있다. 그래서 보이는 현재에서 지나간 과거를 투영하며 다가올 미래를 조타 한다. 그렇게 기억은 우리 삶의 시작과 끝을 이어서 각각의 개인의 삶을 형성한다.
사람들은 보이지 않는 것에 관심이 없으며 눈에 보이는 실체적인 것에 더 많은 신뢰를 갖는다. 기억이라는 비가시적인 정신 기능을 어떻게 보이는 실체로 만들어 낼 수 있을까 생각했고 이에 만든 인형으로 기억을 형상화해서 기억의 내재적 의미와 그에 따른 외적 현상까지 접근해 보았다.
삶의 맥락마다 생성되는 기억들은 그 형성의 내용에 따라 현재의 모습으로 다르게 투영시킨다. 그러므로 현재의 나의 모습은 켜켜이 쌓인 이제까지 기억들의 축적물 그 자체인 것이다.
인형들은 하나하나가 기억으로서 시간과 관계의 작용에 의해 다른 현상과 결과를 보여주는 매개체이며 개인의 내적 본질 형성과 정신의 근간을 표현하는 총체적 구조물이다.
앞으로 미래는 인공지능에 의해 인간의 모든 행동을 대행할 수 있다고 한다. 물론 사고도 메모리로 축척되어 상식에 의거하거나 정밀한 지식체계를 입력해 어쩌면 인간보다 더 치밀하게 정보를 소유하고 보편화해서 무섭도록 빠르고 편리한 문명 발전 속도를 가져올 것이라 확신한다.
하지만 그런 시대가 오더라도 인간성이 담긴 정서적 기억은 오직 인간들만이 소유하고 향락할 수 있을 것이라 본다. 입력된 것이 아닌 감정의 노출로 경험되는 서정적 기억들을 기계에서 얻을 수 있으리란 희망은 그저 기대 일 뿐이다. 지식의 기억은 나눌 수 있지만 개인이 소유하는 내밀한 정서적 기억을 기계에게 요구하기는 어려울 것이다.
결코 무엇으로도 대처할 수 없는 것이 정서적 기억이기에 그 기억들의 형성에 좀 더 깊이를 가져야 하겠고 기억들에 의해 현재의 모습을 들여다볼 수 있다면 따뜻한 감성의 선의에 기초한 기억들을 선택해서 현재의 삶을 밀도 있게 채워나가야 할 것이다.

Memory as a Premise
We are living in the present of visible memories, the past of invisible memories, and the future of visible yet-to-be-seen memories. Thus, we reflect on the past through the visible present and steer toward the upcoming future. In this way our memories shape our personal lives, bridging its start to the end.
People are indifferent to the invisible and have trust in the visible and substantial. I have contemplated how to best present a projection of an invisible spiritual function referred to as a memory. The dolls in my work are projections of my memories with which I have come closer to the internal meaning and external appearance of memories.
I reflect on the memories that were generated in each life circumstance as present appearances according to the content of such creations. My present appearance is therefore an accumulation of my memories. My dolls serve as a medium to showcase different phenomena and results based on the actions of time and relationships as well as a general structure representing the formation of each individual’s inward nature and the basis of their spirit.
It has been said that all human actions will be replaced with artificial intelligence in the future. Even our thoughts might eventually be amassed in memory chips and machines that have been programmed with precise knowledge systems might later be able to acquire and universalize information more thoroughly than humans. I am certain that such AI factors will bring civilizations to develop at tremendous speeds.
That being said, our memories are associated with emotions and humanity and will only be possessed and enjoyed by humans even when such an age does come. Our expressive memories, experienced through the revelation of our emotions, cannot be obtained from machines. It will be hard to expect them to possess the emotional memories each individual has as long as we are able to share our memories of knowledge.
As our emotional memories cannot be replaced by anything, we should become more interested in their formation. Since we have the ability to examine our present selves through such memories, it is important for us to fill our present lives with our memories based on our emotions and goodwill.
