내 개들은 함께소통한다. 그러면서 그 어떤놈과도 '관계'를 맺으려 노력하지않고, 함부로 나서는 일도 없다.
그저 제자리만 지키고 있다.
사람은 관계를 통해 행복을 느낀다. 때론 그 관계로 참기 힘든 고통을 얻기도한다. 관계에 대한 믿음이 무너지는 날이 있었다. 숨쉴 수 있을 정도의 작은 공간을 마련하고, 그곳에 몸을 숨겼다. 작은섬에 스스로 격리 시키는것을 선택했다. 뭐가 문제였을까. 내가 마주보고 있는 사람을 위한것이 아닌, 내 만족을 위한 관계를 요구하고 있었던건 아니었을까. 내 최선이란게, 일방적 감정을 앞세운것에 불과했나. 인정하기힘들었다.
'사람은 누구나 다 이기적이며 이중적인 모습을 보인다'는 말을 듣고 큰위로를 얻은적이있다. 나뿐 아니라 우리 모두가 같은 죄를 껴안고 사는 공범인양 느껴졌다. 난 스스로를 작은섬에 가뒀다. 소통은 단절됐고, 그저 멀리서 바라보기만한다. 머지않아 가면을 뒤집어쓰고 관계속으로 뛰어들 것이 분명하다.
사람들이 궁금하기 때문이다.

In my drawings, the dogs are interacting or “communicating” with each other. However, not one dog is trying to initiate “relationships,”and they dare not speak carelessly to others. They’re merely protecting their space.
People often find happiness through their relationships. But on the contrary, people also experience a lot of pain and hurt from these relationships as well. I, too, once lost faith in relationships. Everything felt as if it was drifting apart. I managed to create a small haven for myself and hid behind it. I isolated myself from people.
What was the problem? Perhaps I demanded too much to satisfy my own needs than those of others. What seemed like my best was nothing other than my own selfishness. This was difficult for me to accept.
Someone once said “all people are inherently selfish and two faced.” I found great comfort and relief in those words. People are not bad, but rather, we all live the same way holding onto the same guilt.
I put myself in my haven. I stopped interacting, and I simply look from the distance. But give it some time and I’m sure that I will jump into relationships, covered beneath a mask. It’s because I’m always curious about people.
