허구의 경계에 있는 인물의 한 단면의 이미지를 실체화하면서
주관적 경험과 그 인물의 이미지와의 만남을 이끌어내고자 한다.
나는 색채라는 매개체를 통하여 묘사라는 굴레를 벗어나고자 하였다. 색채는 지성에게 있어 아무런 의미도 가지지 않는다. 그러나 색채는 감성에 대해서 모든 위력을 송두리째 다 발휘한다. 색채를 앞에 두고 억지로 꾸며댄 지적 이해로 감동의 결핍을 은폐할 방법이란 없다. 색채는 오직 느껴질 뿐이다. 따라서 화가의 영혼을 전달해 주는 것은 무엇보다도 색채인 것이다. 우리는 시각을 통해 보고 느끼게 된 색채를 정서적인 차원으로 받아들이게 된다.
색채는 인간의 감정에 직접 호소하며 정서적 감정을 불러일으키는데, 그것은 인간의 감정에 직접 영향을 미친다는 점에서 가장 표현적인 요소 가운데 하나라고 생각된다. 표현적이라는 의미는 자연의 대상을 재현하는 것이 아니라, 그로부터 받은 주관적 감정을 직접 또는 간접으로 드러내는 방식을 말한다.
작품 속의 인물들은 그들이 가진 고유한 색에 따라 그들의 gender(성)이 결정된다고 할 수 있다.

The artist is to face another personal inscape through the meaning.
My work are asking a question about special artistic experience and humanistic meaning of that experience coming from interacting with the personal inscape of a color.
I'd like to free oneself from the fetters of description using the color.
I try to express the inner meanings of the one's expressionistic image, and discern the contrast of it, rather than simply reproducing that image. Additionally the personal feelings created are expressed.
The color is adequate medium of reflecting premises in my work and expressing them.
Inscape of a gender is fixed by the color.

■ 정연주
대구 계명대학교 러시아어문학과를 졸업한 정연주는 동대학원 미술학과(서양화전공) 석사학위를 받았다. 세 번의 개인전(서울, 대구, 남해)과 여러 단체전, 국제전을 하며 작업을 선보이고 있다. 강한 표현주의적 성향으로 있는 그대로의 모습이 아닌 각각의 사물, 또는 사람에게서 느껴지는 주관적인 느낌을 색을 이용해 나타낸다.
Youn-ju, Jung graduated from the Keimyoung University majoring in Russian Language and Literature and has MFA in Fine Arts. She had 3 solo exhibitions which was held in Seoul, Daegu and Namhae and participated several group exhibitions.
Her works more like the German-style, would label "Expressionism".
She tries to express the inner meanings of the one's expressionistic image, and discern the contrast of it, rather than simply reproducing that images. Additionally the personal feelings created are expressed the descriptions using the colors.
