현대미술의 무대가 단선적 서구 중심에서 동아시아를 중심으로 하는 복선적 미술무대로의 재편이 급속화 되어 가고 있다.
구체적인 예로 중국은 이미 지난해 세계 미술시장 점유율이 33%로서 29.9%의 미국을 앞질렀다. 물론 자본과 인적 인프라에서 미국과 유럽 중심의 미술이 여전히 건재하지만 점차 베이징과 서울, 그리고 도쿄를 중심으로 한 극동아시아로의 미술중심축 이동이 가시화하고 있는 상황이다. 세계가 아시아 고유의 다양한 문화와 아시아적 가치의 중요성을 새롭게 인식하기 시작하고 있다.
이런 즈음에 '아시아적 가치(Asian Value)의 탐구와 소통, 그리고 예술을 통한 아시안의 문화발전소' 역할을 자임하며 창립된 <아시아트(Asiarts)>그룹은 아시아+아트(Asia+Arts)의 합성어로서, 2010년 서울에서 아시아트 인 서울(Asiarts in Seoul)의 창립전이 서울아트센터 공평갤러리 초대전으로 시작 되었으며 그 이듬해 2011년 베이징에서 아시아트 인 베이징(Asiarts in Beijing)이 베이징 원전미술관(元典美術館)에서 성대하게 개최되었다. 올해 제3회전으로서 한중수교20주년 기념 <2012아시아트인서울>전을 서울에서 개최하게 되었다. 점차 한국과 중국을 넘어 일본, 대만, 동남아시아, 중동 그리고 유럽, 미국 등으로 확대하여 아시아트인도쿄, 아시아트인유럽전을 기획하고 있다.
The stage of modern arts is being rapidly restructured from Westerncentered linear to East Asian-centered non-linear. To illustrate, the share of China in the world art market last year was 33%, outstripping that of the U.S. at 29.9%. It is true that the arts of the U.S. and Europe remain undiminished in terms of capital and human resource infrastructure, but it can be clearly seen that the axis that world arts revolves around is gradually moving toward the Far East Asia including Beijing, Seoul, and Tokyo. The world now is beginning to recognize the importance of a variety of unique cultures and values in Asia.
Accordingly, Asiarts was founded to play the role of cultural plant of Asia by means of exploration and communication of Asian values and cultures. It was initiated with its exhibition entitled Asiarts in Seoul in 2010 followed by another successful exhibition in Beijing in 2011. This year, it holds its third exhibition in Seoul in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Korean-Chinese friendly relationship. At present, Asiarts in Tokyo and Asiarts in Europe also are being prepared.
