아비가일 스턴(Abigail Stern)은 동양의 문화와 예술에 관심이 많은 미국 작가로 그녀의 작품은 한국, 중국, 일본, 인도 등 동양적 이미지를 한 캔버스 공간 안에 혼융(fusion)시킨 독자적인 회화 스타일을 창안해 냈다.
이미지 콜라주라고 부를 수 있는 아비가일 스턴의 그림들은 서양인의 눈에 비친 동양의 모습이다. 그녀는 따뜻한 인류애의 시선으로 동양의 사회를 바라본다. 그녀의 그림이 가진 강점은 인류의 보편적 지평에서 타문화를 해석하는 것이다. 특수를 보편에 녹여내는 일, 그것이 바로 아비가일 스턴의 회화인 것이다.
