In Jin Hyu Lee’s world of arts. The two different roads coexist taking turns of opening and closing each other as the low and high tides or conception and abortion exist together.

While the images of narrow crooked roads are internally created the black latticed frames confine the surface of works.

The two different roads that form the connotation and denotation on his diversified works seem rather not harmonious but are tuned in his world as the dual allegories.

이진휴의 예술 세계에서는 두 개의 다른 길이 서로 공존한다. 개방과 폐쇄, 그리고 밀물과 썰물, 잉태와 낙태… 좁고 굽은 길의 심상이 내제된 공간에, 어두운 격자의 틀이 작품의 표면을 억누른다.

두 개의 서로 상반되는, 함축과 과감한 내보임이 공존하는 그의 다양한 작품은 오히려 하모니를 깨는 듯 하지만, 그의 작품 안에서 완벽한 조화를 이뤄내어, 이중성을 풍자하고 있다.

We might take a guess one thing from his works of arts hidden in dual allegories. It seems to be chaotic to us, like from a Spanish bullfighting to ornaments made of horns, from ancient Arabic letters written in complicated symbols to Korean Hunminjeongeum, and from Da Vinci? Mona Lisa to contemporary interpretation of Mondriaan, which could be his desire that might not be compatible with the surroundings, but still in an orderly manner.

어쩌면 이제 우리는 그의 세계를 배후를 주조하면서도 결코 명료함의 표층 밖으로 그 심연의 합의를 들어내지 않는 이중의 알레고리로부터 적어도 한가지 사실은 조망해 낼 수 있을는지 모른다. 그리고 아마도 스페인의 투우로부터 대서양 건너편의 뿔장식에 이르기까지, 아랍의 난해한 기호문자로부터 한국의 훈민정음에 이르기까지 그리고 다빈치의 모나리자로부터 몽드리안의 현대적 해석에 이르기까지의 무질서하고 카오스적인 선포와 그것을 다시 부동의 한 질서로 꿰기 위한 상충하는 욕망의 교환일 것이다.

Chang of the Perspectives

I see plain stuff which has been confined in people’s unconsciousness, and put some meaning to it. I have tried to escape from the ordinary views, searching for new dimensions of objects around me.

My keen interests are focused on how to express the objects that I interpreted with different perspectives. I have tried to recreate the meaning of the things scattered around me. I enjoy experimenting, using different methods, such as splitting the space in canvas.

Treasured Existence

I pursue the historical and ethnic traces through my works, which are mingled with the new idea and directivities of the society I live in.

Futuristic Mindset

My works are blended sentiment derived from the mixture of conventional painting and digitalizing culture that has become the fact of life.  I found a new way of painting, which is based on the classical way of thought.

사고의 전환

무의식 속에 던져져 있는 평범한 사물들… 나는 새로운 시각으로 그것들을 바라본다. 이것은 사고의 낡은 관습이자, 고정관념으로부터의 탈피를 의미하는 것이다. 어떠한 시각으로 관찰하고, 새로운 에너지를 부여하고, 또 어떻게 표현하느냐 하는 것이 나의 관심이다. 주변 일상의 익숙함이 전혀 다른 새로움으로 재현되고자 하는 것은 화면의 분할방식 등, 여러가지 방법적인 시도를 꾀하는 것은 아주 흥미로운 작업이다.

존재로서의 가치

나의 작품에 나타나는 대상들은 대부분 기억의 파편들, 즉, 역사 혹은 민족성으로부터의 정체성에 대한 나의 흔적이며, 각 시대로부터의 의미있는 변화와 앞으로의 방향성을 부여한다.

미래적 방향성

급변하는 사회에서 반드시 수용되어야만 하는 디지털과 회화의 접목은 숙명적인 것이다. 공간개념 속에서 복고적 명상을 위한 작업으로서, 새로운 회화의 방법론으로 신기술, 디지털을 선택하는 것은, 동시에 작품 속에 내제된 공간개념이 역사와 동·서양의 어울림이 함축된 복고적 명상을, 회화를 통해 감성적 표출을 의미하는 것이다.
