물질의 특성을 살피고 거듭된 표현방식을 찾아내어 가는 과정은 한지와 먹을 다루던 작가에게 있어 크게 다르지 않다. 재료적 표현방식에서 골판지 작업은(corrugated cardboard) 내부를 둘러싼 표면적 해체의 의미와 그 안에 다른 이미지로서의 기록의 의미를 담는다. 이는 ‘이중풍경dual landscape’이라는 주제로 작품의 재료가 지닌 특성을 이해하며, 감상자와 함께 작품을 바라보는 법을 즐겁게 하기 위함이다. 정면에서 보여 지는 이미지와 측면에서 보여 지는 이미지는 서로 무언의 대화를 하는 시각표현의 연장인 것이다. 바라봄의 관점에 특히 주목할 점은 이러한 관객의 바라보는 시각에 의해 나타내어지는 이미지의 관계, 즉 “같은 혹은 다른풍경The same or any other landscape”에 주안해야 할 것이다.
표면에(OUT-SIDE)보여지는 이미지와 내면(IN-SIDE)에서의 달리 보여 지는 이미지 구현 안과 밖, 혹은 보여짐과 드리움이라는 시각의 오차를 발견하는 계획안에서 진실을 탐구하는데 그 중점을 둔다.
‘이중풍경’은 상상과 진실의 과정을 기록하는 장치로서의 소재이다. 기록이라는 시간적 행위와 작업에서 보여지는 일련의 과정은 많은 부분 닮아 있음을 볼 수 있다. 연속된 과정 속에서 보여지는 나른함, 고행과도 같은 반복된 행위들, 겉과 속 등 여러 의미를 부여할 수 있도록 또 다른 소재의 역사를 찾아 작업에 기록해 나아가는 작업을 통해 스스로의 역사를 작업에 기록하는데 기인하는데 있다.

The Scenery of the Other Side
Ku Ihn-Seong is an artist who has carved out a new field of painting using cardboard. He discovered cardboard by chance while packing his works for delivery, and he started having an interest in the material’s structure. After long experiments, he began creating labor-intensive works, fighting millions of pixels. Ku Ihn-Seong‘s cardboard works that are made through his labor over a long period of time are fresh in terms of materials. In addition, he is now trying to expand another aspect of painting, drawing his real nature within the borders of reality and unreality through a unique accessing code, that is, the scenery of the other side. When viewing his works from a the larger context of contemporary art, the experimental spirit of the artist, who succeeds tradition using a method in which he re-analyzes tradition in contemporary and microscopic space pursuing varying media, forms, and methods in terms of technology, is revealed to viewers impressively.
